God's First Promise In The Bible

Genesis 2:15-17, “And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

The first promise that God made to Adam in the Garden of Eden, was that he would die the day he ate of the forbidden fruit. We don't know what kind of fruit it was. Tradition often assumes it was an apple. Hence, the term “Adam's apple” is often used to describe the the bump in a man's throat, which is his larynx to speak. Some theologians speculate that it was likely a fig tree, since Adam sewed together fig leaves to cover their nakedness (Genesis 3:7).

There are so many truths to be gleaned from this passage of Scripture in Genesis 2:15-17. Sin is a serious matter to God. So serious in fact that ONE SIN caused the downfall of the entire human race. How horribly sinful could a man be for merely taking a bite from a piece of fruit? Isn't that so often how people think nowadays? In California, shoplifting is so commonplace today that a new law allows people to steal with little penalty. It's open season on stealing from stores in California in 2021. Fill your pockets all you thieves! Pretty soon there won't even be a penalty!

In Seattle, you can shoot up illegal drugs right in front of the cops and they cannot do anything about it. This is the growing disturbing trend in the United States today! Sin is no longer awful. Evil no longer carries a negative stigma. This is the consequence of a wicked nation that has banned God's Word from its school since 1963. Adam and Eve lost everything for eating a piece of fruit! As bizarre as that sounds dear friend, it nonetheless shows God's attitude and intolerance toward all sin. The Bible teaches that even our foolish thoughts are sinful. Proverb 24:9, “The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.” Oh how guilty and foolish the human race is!

Did you know that it is a sin not to pray for the people in our life? 1st Samuel 12:23, “Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:” The prophet Samuel was talking to the people in this verse. We ought to have a continual burden for the needs of others. Jesus lived this way. Philippians 2:4-5, “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:Americans today are extremely selfish.

Since 2017, I have read thousands of dating profiles on eHarmony, matches they've sent to me, hoping to find a wife. It's been a big waste of time! Of the dozens of women I have contacted, only one bothered to write back to tell me she wasn't interested. That was nice! There are far more women than men today who are willing to get married, so I am one of the few suckers. Yet, women are so picky that they want Mr. Perfect. I am 5' 7", not 6 feet tall. I am bald, not having a full head of dark hair. I am financially stable and not in debt, but I am not a rich entrepreneur. I am just a normal, ordinary, reasonable, love to stay home, kind of guy.

A few woman on eHarmony said they want a guy with a strong jaw line. Oh brother! No kidding. That leaves me out. Many women want to merely add a man to their already busy life, pursuing a successful career while fitting a man and children into her free time. I absolutely am not overexaggerating folks. I 100% agree with what Pastor Jack Hyles said about women today. I read a profile just this past week, from a woman who runs a successful restaurant in Massachusetts as a chef. She literally said she won't give up her business for a man, and is seeking to find a husband in her free time.

This is the insane mindset of many American women nowadays. They don't want a man, they want to exploit a guy to get a house and children. Then when things go bad, she files for divorce and the courts force the man to continue meeting her financial needs, while his needs go completely unmet. That is how selfish our country has become, and men have had enough of the bullcrap! That is why tens of millions of American women are now single, frustrated, bitter, angry, desperate and will NEVER find a man to marry them! This is why the ungodly hookup culture is booming and will continue! The Devil wanted it this way and used social engineering to make it happen.

Not all of God's promises are pleasant or agreeable. Eve detested having even one rule! The sly serpent appealed to Eve's humanity, convincing her that no rules were better than having any rules. That sounds like John Lennon's idiotic 1971 song, “Imagine.” John couldn't even get along with three other band members in The Beatles, fighting over money, but he wants the whole world to get alone without rules, borders or religion. Right John, sure! We've seen where anarchy leads in 2020, as our American cities have burned to the ground. There is peace and safety within obeying God's commandments. Ecclesiastes 12:13, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Obey and it will be well, disobey and it will be hell.
